A native of Parkton, she was the daughter of Josie Waddill and the Rev. H.B. Porter. Mrs. Farthing lived in many areas of eastern North Carolina during her youth.

She was a graduate of Durham High School and Duke University. Mrs. Farthing had been an accountant and worked for Erwin Mills, the Durham County schools, and UNC-Chapel Hill. She was a member of the Pilot Club, the Durham Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Anne F.

Grauer, of St. Petersburg, FL; a brother, Edmond Porter, of Belleville, MI; a grandson, Christopher J. Graver, of St. Petersburg; and a niece, Mary G. Lee, of Burlington.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Hall- Wynne Chapel, with the Revs. Laurie Hays Coffman and Charles Owens officiating. Private burial will be in Maplewood SMITH Miss Mary Elizabeth Smith, 93, 2240 East Geer died Thursday evening in Hillcrest Nursing Home. Miss Smith was a native of Wake County, daughter of the late L.W.

and Meda Lloyd Smith. She was graduated from Durham High School and Duke University. She taught school for 27 years at Glenn School in Durham County. Miss Smith was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Gray Southern officiating.
