Overview[]

The player must have completed The Cave on Amber Island.

This mission can be repeated up to five times through the Commerce Guild commission board. Higgins may take one or more commissions.

Required stations[]

The player must have the following to complete this mission:

  • Level 2 Worktable
  • Level 1 Assembly Station
  • Stone Furnace
  • Basic Skiver can be useful for making Fiber Cloth, but the cloth can also be looted or purchased at the Clothing Store.

Conduct of the mission[]

The morning after the fireside triggered by the player completing The Cave on Amber Island, Presley shows up in front of the Workshop. Presley gives news to the player that Mayor Gale has secured the funding of building the Dee-Dee Transport and posts five commissions on the commission board in the Commerce Guild.

Hello! I've got great news! The Mayor has secured the funding to make 5 Dee-Dees, these are three-wheeled transports used for short distance travel. They will make our town much more accessible!
This is a big order! The Mayor posted the five orders separately on the Commerce Guild board, you can start working on them immediately. I'm sure other Builders will be after these commissions as well. So, come on, what are you waiting for?

The commission board has 5 separate Assemble Dee-Dee Transport commissions. Any builder, including Higgins, can grab the commission. As a main mission, this mission can be taken simultaneously with another secondary commission, as long as this commission is not taken with another Assemble Dee-Dee Transport mission.

After the player takes the first commission, Petra sends them a letter:

Hello,

I've heard from Presley that you've taken on a commission making a Dee-Dee transport. For this vehicle, you'll need parts made of relics, I'm not sure if you know how to proceed exactly. Come see me in the Research Center and I'll explain more of the details to you.

If the player speaks with her she provides information on where to obtain the material used in making the Dee-Dee Transport, the Small Engine:

Oh, you came.
Relationship +10
Since you're building the Dee-Dee Transport, you'll need something called a small engine. It's the machine that drives our cars and flies some of our planes. We don't have the know how to craft it anymore, so we have to get them from the ruins.
The problem is, they don't just lie around for people to dig up, they actually power the ancient robots still roaming somewhere in the ruins. We can only get these parts as loot off the robots. They're called the Hazardous Ruins.
There's a Hazardous Ruins to the east of town, in an area we call the Collapsed Wasteland. The landscape in the wasteland is somewhat dangerous, that's why it's fenced off. You should be careful.

The Dee-Dee Transports are mission items and cannot be driven by the player. However, completing the next mission in this plotline, The Dee-Dee Stops Here, unlocks the Dee-Dee Transport System and allows the player to instant-travel (with a small time cost) to placed Dee-Dee Stops.

Reporting to Antoine:

The quality is excellent! Good work! Since you've finished the Dee-Dee, I'm supposed to tell you to go see Mr. Mayor, he wants you to build some road signs or something.

Achievement[]

If the player manages to complete all five commissions for building Dee-Dee Transports, this will trigger an achievement. The player receives the diagram for the Dee-Dee Transport as one of the initial blueprints, and the easiest way to get this achievement is to craft the five Dee-Dee Transports before completing the Amber Island missions, in order to hand in all five Dee-Dee commissions on the day they become available. Since only one commission can be taken at a time, you'll have to run back and forth between the commission board and Antoine, and Higgins may take one of the five commissions in the meantime. The most reliable method to prevent this is to keep engaging conversation with him inside the commerce guild till he leaves the building (at 9:00).

Alternatively, the player can attempt to end the The Cave on Amber Island mission on a Thursday (i.e. installing the battery on a Thursday). This should make the Dee-Dee Commissions appear during the weekend. Higgins doesn't visit the commission board during weekends.Players aiming for this achievement must already have unlocked Abandoned Ruins #1 since the five Dee-Dee Commissions require Small Engines from Abandoned Ruins #1.

Rewards[]

Experience +1000
Gols +1800
Reputation +200

Trivia[]

  • Mission: Assemble Dee-Dee Transport (26)
Previously, this mission became available after Bridge to Amber Island.
  • The player can time the mission if they want to hand in all five Dee-Dee Transports and get the related achievement. Higgins will take one of the transport commissions right away if they are posted on a weekday but will not take any commissions on Saturday or Sunday. To avoid that the player can complete The Cave on Amber Island on Thursday or Friday to get a fireside meeting the next day and this mission on Saturday or Sunday.

NPC comments about the Dee-Dees[]

Some characters will comment while this mission and The Dee-Dee Stops Here are in progress:

Unlike a lot of the other folks around here, I think I'll still be walking even after the Dee-Dees come online.
While I'm all for the Mayor spending money to make our town better, I think there are better options than a Dee-Dee system. I rode them in Atara before...not a smooth ride if you ask me.
I hope more people will show up in Portia once the transportation system is complete. That way, I can sell more flowers.
If you ask me, I'd take a horse over a piece of metal any day of the week. But that's just me.
I think the Dee-Dee system will be great for our town. It'll greatly increase our commerce, to say of nothing else. And I don't have to walk anymore! Walking too much isn't good for my complexion.
I hope the prices for raw materials can come down a bit once the transports come into service.
I saw the diagrams for the Dee-Dees, they're so small! They won't be able to carry anything of size!
If we get this transportation system in place, I can go out farther to buy fresh produces!(sic)
When Molly and I go joyriding on the transports, it'll be no boys allowed!
Are you going to be the one building the new Dee-Dees? I can't wait!
The Mayor has agreed to give us an interview about the Portia transport system. If we frame it right, we'll get a lot of readers for this story.
I hope the transportation system works out. I've invested a lot of capital on this project. From what I hear though, I have the town's support.
Papa has been very excited about the new transportation system. He said that I would be able to take it to go farther than just walking. I can't wait to try it out!
I rode the Dee-Dees in Atara before, they're slow and uncomfortable. Still better than walking, I guess.
So the Mayor finally decided to implement his transportation system after all these years.
I hope when the Mayor's transportation system opens, there will be more people coming here to buy my sister's flowers.
I really hope Gale knows what he's doing. I know the transports will help with Portia's economy...but I don't know, what if they explode or something?
Maybe I should throw my name into the hat to become a Dee-Dee driver.
My kids don't get to see a lot of vehicles out here. They see the long distance buses and boats, an occational(sic) plane, but that's about it. I tried to tell them that there are more vehicles in Atara, but they have a hard time imagining it.
Maybe I can get a side job as a Dee-Dee driver. That way I can bring in some extra cash.
I'm looking forward to the transportation system. I hope more will people show up to my bakery when it's done.
Who wants to ride transports? Horses are still the best!
I'm writing a major article for the Portia transport system, I hope it gets published in the Atara Times.
Why are towns people excited about a Dee-Dee transport? The ancients had vehicles that went 1000 klicks an hour, on the ground! Imagine that!
Dolly and I have already planned to go joyriding on the Dee-Dees once they're operational! It'll be so fun, I'm sure of it!
I see, so the Mayor is trying to implement the Dee-Dee system that Atara developed. This will be great! More stranger wares will show up for me to snatch up!
I have some reservations about a transportation system. The one being used in Atara creates quite a bit of pollution.
I hear that we'll have metal horses in our town soon. I wonder if they're friendly.
I still think it's more manly to walk. I don't trust a piece of machine welded together with relics from the past...no offense to you.
I think the Dee-Dees will really improve our lives! If nothing else, it's a demonstration of the good use of ancient technology.
Hmm, with the Dee-Dees, I guess I can finally travel around the Portia countryside. The surrounding areas are quite pretty, I'm told.
I can't wait for the Dee-Dees to be implemented. I've read in newspapers about how these transports helped Atara prosper.
I have been working with the Mayor to draft up the Dee-Dee plans. The city will be in the red for a while, but we think it'll pay for itself quite quickly.
I hope the transports don't scare all the fish away with their sounds.
Everyone in town's excited about the transport system. I'm looking forward to it as well!
Gale has wanted this transportation system ever since he was it demonstrated in Atara.
I hope my fellow Corps officers don't get lazy with their patrols once the Dee-Dees start operating.
I never liked exercising. Now, with the Dee-Dees, I don't even have to walk. I like it!
How did the Mayor save up so much money for a transport system? If he had that much money, he should have just given all the citizens a holiday bonus. Wouldn't that be nice!
Everyone's talking about some new transportation thing. I don't know what they're talking about!
I heard the Mayor is building a cross city transportation system! It's suppose to be some wicked technology from the past! Maybe a robot will be the driver!
I wonder how much pollution the transports will cause. Will the downsides be worth the effort?
What's the commotion about some land vehicles being put into use? They're so inelegant compared to boats.
I wonder at what times the transport Dee-Dees will run. Sometimes I work very late when I'm out in the field.

NPC comments after the Dee-Dee Transport system is complete[]

Some characters will comment on the Dee-Dee Transport system after the player (or other builders) complete both this mission and The Dee-Dee Stops Here:

I take back what I said about the Dee-Dees before, now that they're operational, I've never been late to a date again!
I can't believe Gale made the transport fares free! Now that's a Mayor I can get behind.
I was right! I was hoping these new transports would be able to help me deliver wood. But nope, too small. Guess Aadit and I will still deliver by hand, yikes.
I see that most people are pretty happy with the result with the Dee-Dees.
The towns folk(sic) were a little apprehensive of the Dee-Dees before hand, but they're now almost all onboard now! I'm glad!
I rode on a Dee-Dee the other night, it was fabulous! I wonder what else they have in Atara that we can implement?
I suppose if we not arming those Dee-Dees for war or something, we're not breaking any Church doctrine.
Well, I applied as a driver for the Dee-Dee, but turns out I'm a pretty bad driver. So that's no-go.
That Mayor made the metal transport fares free! Is he trying to steal my ranch business?!
Have you rode the Dee-Dee yet? What do you think? Terrific right?
I took a ride on a Dee-Dee the other day, it's actually safer than I expected.
I rode on top of the metal horse yesterday, it was like surfing on the waves.
What did I tell you? The Dee-Dees are awesome, right?
It's just like Gale to make the Dee-Dees free for everyone. I'm not against the idea, but we'll have to pay for it somehow.
I rode on the Dee-Dee the other day, and let me tell you! It's worse than riding on a horse, made my hair fly all over the place!
The Dee-Dees turned out to be glorified tricycles, I'm so disappointed! I don't know what I expected!
