After half term, Mrs Fowler and Mr Powis’ class will be swapping PE sessions.

This will mean the following:

Mr Powis’ class will have PE on a Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs Fowler’s class will have PE on a Friday morning.

This change will happen in the first week of next half term and carry on until the end of the year.

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you are aware, in PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) we use a scheme of work called Jigsaw, which is the mindful approach to PSHE.

The Summer Term 2 Puzzle is about Changing Me. The Changing Me Puzzle includes, in every year group, 2 or 3 lessons to help children understand the changes puberty brings and how human reproduction happens. There is a very serious safeguarding aspect to this work and obviously the younger year groups are not looking at these issues directly and explicitly but rather learning correct terminology for body parts and doing the foundation work for later year groups. The Years 5 and 6 lessons look more fully at puberty and human reproduction.

We hope you will be in agreement with us that this work is vitally important for children, that it needs to be done age-appropriately and that the Jigsaw Programme gives us a secure framework in which to do this. Our policy states:

“Parents have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from some or all of sex education delivered as part of statutory Relationships and Sex Education” DfE Guidance p.17

We conclude that sex education refers to Human Reproduction, and therefore inform parents of their right to request their child be withdrawn from the PSHE lessons that explicitly teach this. These lessons are below. If you wish to withdraw your child from any of the above three lessons, this must be done in writing to Mrs Pritchard, through the school office email address.

Year 6, Lesson 4 (Conception, birth)

Year-5-Changing-Me-Coverage

Mr Powis’ class will be having PE on Monday 20th May instead of Friday 24th May. Please could PE Kits be brought in for then. Swimming will also be on that day so this day so children will require both a PE kit and swimming kit.

This will not effect Miss Leech’s PE session that is still on Monday.

Dear Parents,

Newport & District Agricultural Society, organiser of the Newport Show, have offered us the opportunity to take part in a photography workshop on Wednesday 22nd May 2024.

Miss Leech’s class
Leave school at 9.15. Return 11.45.
Children to have lunch at normal time.

Mr Powis’ class
Leave school at 12.30. Return 3.00.
Children to have lunch before leaving school.

The children will be transported to and from Chetwynd Deer Park, a beautiful conservation area, full of endless opportunities to take photographs of wildlife and natural scenery, by coach. We hope to stimulate the children’s interest and skills in natural photography and, at the same time, provide them with the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the Deer Park.

The photographs taken will be displayed in a selection of the Schools’ Marquee at Newport Show. Before the Show, the photographs will be judged. The best three from each school will be placed first, second and third, with a prize for first place and a prize card for second and third.

Equipment Required for visit:
• Normal School Uniform
• Waterproof coat
• Practical footwear: Trainers or Wellies
• Cap (If it is hot, please apply sun cream before coming into school)
• Water bottle

Photography workshop letter 2024 KP JL pdf

Tomorrow, Mrs Pritchard, Miss Leech and the Muxton Safeguarding Voice pupils will be delivering assemblies on the NSPCC’s Speak out, stay safe programme.

These will be done in key stage assemblies and a follow up workshop will be completed in classes over the coming weeks.

Congratulations to both Reuben and Nyla in year 5 who have won the writing and art competition.

Joanne from Bookfest visited the school on Tuesday to congratulate all the children in their efforts and hand out the awards.
