Best Spearman Skills in Wartales
This Spearman build is all about consistent damage. While the Rangers are sneaking behind the target, you’re positioned behind the tank, fighting through them to devastate and support from a defended position.

| 2 | Valorous Support | This gives 1 Valor Point at the end of any turn in which your Spearman is next to an ally but not engaged. This is exactly where you want to be every round, so will simply reward your good play! |
| 3 | Pikeman | Choosing to be a Pikeman Spearman gives you the Vigilance ability. While the 2 Valor cost is expensive, this is an awesome skill. It works like the Archer’s Barrage ability but has a much shorter range. However, unlike Barrage, it stops an approaching enemy in its tracks. His means, that if you create a nasty corridor of both, that will both trigger and the enemy won’t get to you if it survives. |
| 5 | Team Spirit | (Passive) While next to an ally (which you should always be) you gain Brutality, increasing your Damage by 30 percent. |
| 8 | Preparedness | (Passive) More doubling down, this time gaining you Fury (+50 percent damage on your next attack) if you end your turn without being engaged with an enemy. |

Best Spearman Equipment in Wartales
The polearm of choice for the Spearman is Horoun’s Partisan. This legendary weapon can be found in Ludern Ruin and packs a real punch. It has a bit Strength bonus alongside a special that can earn you Valor Points or give you an Attack of Opportunity.

All Spearmen wear medium armor, and if you’re staying on top of your crafting skills, the medium armor you can craft or any solid drops will work fine. If you can add any Armor Layers, I’d lean towards Layer of the Stag (Strength and Armor).
Best Spearman Attributes in Wartales
The Pugilist Spearman is built around bringing guaranteed additional damage to the unit they’re currently shadowing, which is great for taking down well-armored units. They are easy to keep alive while generating Valor Points for the team as well.
- Strength: As your main damage buff, this is going to be your most common attribute raise. The Crit Damage boost is a nice bonus, but consistent damage is more important.
- Constitution: While you should stay out of danger, area effects and ranged hits happen. I’d add Constitution once for every couple of Strength-ups.
- Movement: It’s important to be able to get into position, so investing a few points in movement is worthwhile. I’d get up to 14 or so when you have level-ups where you don’t feel underpowered or low on health.
- Willpower: It’s useful to get you to power up to 15, either via leveling or gear, but I wouldn’t rush it. Just take it if it is a double-plus, and you feel confident about staying alive while doing solid damage.
- Critical Hit: For me, the Spearman is a supporting character, and the above stats are more important than upping a stat based on luck. I don’t increase Crits at all.
- Dexterity: I don’t put any points into Dexterity, as you get no damage benefit (that comes from Strength), and I don’t put any stock in Critical Hits for Spearman.
How to play Spearman in Wartales
The job of the Pugilist Spearman is to add an extra arm to the frontline melee fighter they're standing behind, pumping out massive extra damage while the tank concentrates on staying alive. Once the tank has engaged, move behind them and attack through them to take down their engaged enemy.
If the engaged enemy drops, then it is time to use Vigilance. This ability sees you set up a kill zone that, when an enemy enters, you auto-attack and stop it in its tracks. In this way, you protect as well as deal out damage. While there are melee units upright on your side, rinse and repeat!
