While figure skating may not traditionally fall under the umbrella of extreme sports, it's certainly one of the most challenging disciplines to master. This sport requires skaters to embody grace, precision, and athleticism, all while maintaining balance on thin blades.

The six most common jumps can be divided into two groups: toe jumps (the toe loop, the flip, and the Lutz) and edge jumps (the Salchow, the loop, and the Axel). The Euler jump, which was known as a half-loop before 2018, is an edge jump. Jumps are also classified by the number of revolutions.

The only ladies' singles skater with more world titles or medals is Sonia Henie of Norway. Kwan won nine U.S. Championships (1996, 1998–2005), tying the record for most wins set by Maribel Vinson-Owen (1928–1933, 1935–1937).

Michelle Kwan sits as the most decorated figure skater – male or female – in the United States, having won 43 championships. She earned two Olympic medals, five world championships, and nine U.S. championship titles.

Sonja Henie is the most decorated skater at the World Championships in women's singles. She won ten gold medals and one silver medal for Norway.
