The couple first met when they both worked at Accuweather, and began their relationship there. He actually proposed to her while she was on-air. They have three children together.

As seen in her charity work, she loves to read and spends her free time reading books, claiming to read around 100 a year. One of her biggest weather interests is tornadoes, and it is her dream to one day chase a tornado while on the plains. She loves spending time with her family, and staying healthy. She goes on long walks, and cycling is one of her main forms of exercise. She also travels around the country with her family during vacations.
